The Hispanic Experience in Physical Education Teacher Education Programs: A Qualitative Study

The purpose of this study was to describe the experiences of Hispanic faculty involved in physical education teacher education programs at predominantly White colleges and universities in the United States. The study was positioned in the theoretical framework of organizational socialization. Participants were Hispanic (n = 6) faculty from various kinesiology-based programs in tenure-track positions at institutions of higher education in the United States. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews and transcribed, triangulated, and analyzed with constant comparative procedures. We uncovered the following themes: (a) underrepresented, (b) socialized, and (c) cultured and determined. The study’s findings magnify the need for faculty and administrators to heighten their awareness and implement strategies to improve the organizational socialization of Hispanic faculty, particularly at predominantly White doctoral-granting colleges and universities. This means, for instance, identifying strategies to recruit, prepare, retain, and mentor Hispanic faculty at such institutions.  相似文献

This paper follows on from the authors’ previous research into minimal Black teacher representation in Liverpool schools [Boyle, B., and M. Charles. 2010. “Tightening the Shackles: The Continued Invisibility of Liverpool's British African Caribbean Teachers.” Journal of Black Studies 42 (3): 427–435]. It is based on a re-examination of their findings of Liverpool's Black teachers’ historic institutionalised invisibility [Swann Report. 1985. Education for All. Report of the Committee of the Enquiry into the Education of Children from Ethnic Minority Groups. London: Her Majesty's Stationery Office.] and an interrogation of the situation as revealed by the 2015 data. The article uses as its evidence base, questionnaire responses and data from a sample of interviews with the current 18 Black teachers. Despite the voices of Black teachers being marginalised and even less likely to be heard, it is vital that the pedagogies of Black teachers contribute to a ‘dismantling of binaries and hierarchies that privilege Eurocentric paradigms of teaching’ [Escayg, K. 2010. “Diverse Classrooms, Diverse Teachers: Representing Cultural Diversity in the Teaching Profession and Implications for Pre-Service Admissions.” Canadian Journal for new Scholars in Education 3 (2): 1–8, 4].  相似文献   

口外翼下颌阻滞麻醉的应用解剖学研究

在40侧头预部正中矢状切开标本和60侧下颌骨标本上,按口外翼下颌阻滞麻醉的设计要求,解剖观察了下牙槽神经、舌神经在翼下颌间隙的位置。测量了从下颌管下缘点和下颌角行口外翼下颌阻滞麻醉时的进针深度和角度。测得从下颌骨下缘点的进针深度为37mm;下颌角点的深度为30mm,穿刺针与下颌支后缘之间的角度为31°。对采用该法行口外阻滞麻醉的解剖学要点,优缺点进行了讨论。  相似文献

乳腺癌患者保留肋间臂神经的临床意义

目的：探讨乳腺癌腋窝淋巴结清扫术保留肋间臂神经的价值。方法：对天津医科大学附属肿瘤医院2000．1-2001．12月间69例保留肋间臂神经和34例切除肋间臂神经的乳腺癌患者进行随访。结果：肋间臂神经保留组术后48例无感觉方面上的变化，11例发生感觉麻木，1例上肢出现烧灼感，9例上肢出现感觉减退；而肋间臂神经切除组术后3例出现腋窝无汗．18例发生感觉麻木，4例上肢出现烧灼感，9例上肢出现感觉减退。两组之间在统计学上有显著性差异（x^2=48．1570；P〈0．05）；肋间臂神经保留组58例术后未发生患肢疼痛，11例发生患肢疼痛；而肋问臂神经切除组5例术后未发生患肢疼痛，29例术后发生患肢疼痛。两组患者之间在统计学上有显著性差异（x^2=46．1194；P〈0．05）。结论：乳腺癌患者保留肋间臂神经可以明显减少术后患侧上肢感觉障碍和疼痛的发生，从而提高患者的生活质量。  相似文献

Abstract

Mentoring undergraduate students in research is both rewarding and challenging. In this paper we present how we established a summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program in the mathematical sciences at Michigan State University. A goal of our REU is to include students who are at an early stage of their study of mathematics. We share our experiences in recruiting students, designing research projects, and mentoring our participants. We discuss the challenges we faced and the solutions we found while working with a diverse group of undergraduate students from across the nation.  相似文献   

酒精对蟾蜍离体坐骨神经干动作电位的影响

应用电生理方法观察了不同浓度的酒精对蟾蜍离体坐骨神经干动作电位的幅度、持续时间及传导速度的影响。结果表明：用酒精溶液浸泡蟾蜍坐骨神经干10min，低浓度（1％、2％、4％）时，动作电位的幅度和对照组相比无明显变化；中、高浓度的酒精溶液（6％、8％、10％、129／6）使动作电位的幅度显著或极显著降低。动作电位的传导速度随着酒精溶液浓度的升高而变慢，和对照组相比，10％的酒精溶液使其显著减慢（P〈0．05）；12％的酒精溶液使其极显著减慢（P〈0．01）。随着酒精溶液浓度的升高，坐骨神经干动作电位持续时间有缩短趋势，但无显著性差异。这说明酒精溶液对坐骨神经干动作电位具有一定的抑制作用。  相似文献

鉴于影响体外预应力筋极限应力的因素较多,采用BP和RBF两种人工神经网络模拟方法进行体外预应力筋极限应力进行预测。通过和试验数据比较分析,预测结果与试验结果的相对误差均在10%以内,满足工程需要,因此,采用神经网络预测体外预应力筋极限应力是可行的。  相似文献
